Achieving Global HR Independence with SAP SuccessFactors — in Record Time

“The AKT team guided us through SAP best practice, enabling us to understand the right approach to design decisions and problem-solving — and to move with the confidence and speed the project demanded.”

Challenge

As a carve-out from the ABB Group, ABB E-Mobility faced a defining challenge: building a fully independent IT landscape — including HR systems — within a compressed timeframe, entirely separate from the parent company’s infrastructure.

The initial priority was a joint ERP and SAP SuccessFactors implementation covering Italy and the Netherlands, with just six months to go live. The critical constraint within the HR workstream was meeting the January 2024 payroll deadline, which required a fully operational employee master data and time-tracking solution to be in place before year-end.

With the first phase complete, the scope expanded significantly: the full SAP SuccessFactors suite needed to be deployed across 15 countries, navigating a wide range of local legal requirements for time tracking and payroll data.

Results

16
Months to full global rollout across 15 countries
15
Countries live on a unified SAP SuccessFactors platform
5
5-person client team successfully lead a global deployment

AKT partnered closely with ABB E-Mobility’s lean five-person HR team, guiding them through SAP best practices and enabling rapid, well-informed decision-making throughout the project. A strong global governance framework — agreed jointly from the outset — gave the client team the confidence and authority to move quickly, a critical advantage given the timeline pressures.

This foundation of shared commitment and clear governance made it possible to deliver the first milestone on time: a live payroll run in January 2024, backed by a fully functional employee master data and time-tracking solution.

Building on that success, AKT navigated the complexity of regional rollouts across 14 additional countries, addressing diverse local requirements for time tracking and payroll-relevant data integration with payroll systems. Within 16 months of the programme’s start, the full SAP SuccessFactors suite was live globally across all 15 countries — a true record-time achievement for a deployment of this scale and complexity.
